Peter M. Fleischut, MD, is Chief Innovation Officer & Chief Medical Operating Officer of NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital. He joined NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital in 2006 and has held roles as Medical Director of the operating rooms, Deputy Quality Patient Safety Officer, Founding Director of the Center for Perioperative Outcomes, Chief Medical Information Officer and Vice Chairman for the Department of Anesthesiology. Dr. Fleischut retains his appointment as Associate Professor of Anesthesiology. Dr. Fleischut received his MD, Alpha Omega Alpha from Jefferson Medical College and graduated from Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania, completed his residency training in Anesthesiology at NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medicine. He distinguished himself by becoming one of the founding members of the Housestaff Quality Council©, an organization formed to improve patient care and safety at NYP by creating a culture that promotes greater housestaff participation, and served as Resident Quality and Patient Safety Officer for NYP. Dr. Fleischut has received several awards, including the David A. Leach Award for Innovation in Quality from the Accreditation Council on Graduate Medical Education, the John M. Eisenberg Patient Safety and Quality Award from the National Quality Forum and The Joint Commission, and the Weill Cornell Medical College Healthcare Leadership Award. In 2013, he was named one of twelve Up and Comers by Modern Healthcare, recognizing healthcare leaders under the age of 40, and was also named Physician of the Year at NYP/Weill Cornell. In 2014, he was named one of the 25 healthcare leaders under 40 by Becker’s Hospital Review. Roy is President and CEO of American Well where, a decade ago, he introduced the technology that brokers on-demand telehealth visits between patients in need and available providers. Since its rollout in 2008, the American Well ecosystem has attracted over 200 of the nation's largest payers, health systems, employers, retailers and, through them, reaches millions of Americans. Prior to American Well, Roy was the founder of CareKey and served as CISO at TriZetto, following its acquisition of CareKey. In 2013, Roy was appointed to the Federation of State Medical Boards' task force delivering landmark guidelines for the "Appropriate use of Telehealth in Medical Practice." Roy is the 2014 recipient of the American Telemedicine Association Industry award for leadership in the field of telemedicine. He is an avid author and speaker in the areas of healthcare technology and health IT policy. Roy serves on the board of the American Telemedicine Association, holds an MD from the Hebrew University and an MPH from Harvard. He is a sailor, scuba-diver and, between September and February, a devoted football fan.View more
