Elinor Randi Schoenfeld PhD, is an Epidemiologist and Research Professor and Deputy Division Head, Epidemiology & Biostatistics in the Department of Family, Population and Preventive Medicine, Stony Brook University (SBU) School of Medicine. She works closely with many diverse communities providing individuals with knowledge and tools to make informed health care decisions, become active participants in their care, and sustain independence as they age. Her NIH, HRSA, state and private foundation funded studies have focused on interventions and risk factor determination for cancer, diabetes, visual impairment, periodontal disease, cardiac arrest, osteoporosis, opioid addiction, and obesity. Dr. Schoenfeld’s current research focuses on technology supported aging in place. She is collaborating with a diverse team from the SBU College of Engineering and Applied Sciences, the Schools of Medicine, Nursing and Social Welfare, and the community developing and evaluating a home-based sensor system to support smart aging.
